This project is a photographic essay on migrant experiences in North Canterbury that was exhibited at Art on the Quay in March 2019. Funded by Creative Communities, it was born from my own experiences trying to settle in a new country. I sought to explore how fellow immigrants find a sense of connection – either to people or place – after uprooting and moving to a new country.
I interviewed and photographed six migrants in the Waimakariri region of Canterbury, on their experiences and methods of seeking and finding connection in their new home.
